The field of Material Sciences explores materials, their characteristics and tests their ability to become functioning structural components. Within an intense interdisciplinary cooperation with other scientific fields like Physics and Chemistry workpieces that have to meet special quality requirements are developed.
The transCampus initiative recognized the growing importance of the Materials Sciences in nowadays engineering: a virtual interdisciplinary workshop held in 2022 and the support through transCampus seed funding layed the foundation for the start of two new projects groups.
The group around Adrian Ehrenhofer (TUD) and Matthew Howard (King’s) as well as the group around Lev Kantorovich (King’s) and Giovanni Cuniberti (TUD) are successfully working on their joint research activities. The latter for example followed the transCampus call for projects in 2022 and is now receiving funding for its research on the effects of the chiral structure of molecules.
